Drummond's Eye Mind is that all-too-rare thing: a long labor of pure love. If you are at all interested in the development of psychedelia or the history of popular music in the U.S. you will find much to adore in this book, which is a blow-by-blow, first-ever history of one of rock's more enigmatic, mystery-shrouded groups: the 13th Floor Elevators.

The book is crammed with wonderful photos and details. If you are an Elevators / Roky Erickson fan you will find little to complain about here.

I only wish whoever edited it (if indeed anyone did) had been more scrupulous and had shaped the final product more -- and paid more attention to style and language. Copyediting would have helped too -- there are far too many typos for a professional book. A careful editorial eye and hand could have turned a very good book into a great one. ( )
