I really like this book. Not only is the story engaging and interesting, but the illustrations it beautifully and tells the story without the words. I know that the author of this book draws her pictures before writing the words and I think that this book is a great example of that. The pictures can and do tell a story without the words. However, the story written is very fascinating. It is a take on Harriet Tubman's underground railroad and what it was like to be a slave escaping during that time. The main character, similarly to the slaves, had to put all of their trust, and their lives, into Aunt Harriet's hands. ( )

Aunt Harriet's Underground Railroad in the Sky is a story about a young girl who escapes slavery by going north. She goes to find her baby brother who jumped on the train in the sky to go north with Harriet Tubman. She tells the story of her journey to freedom and all the adventures she comes across.
This is a great story to read to young learners about slavery and their journey to freedom. ( )

The illustrations in this book captures the journey To the T. Cassie is on a journey to find her brother be be. Be be enters a train full of people trying to escape slavery. As Cassie looks for her brother she follows the instructions of Harriet Tubman on the way to freedom. Harriet guided Cassie as she did the slaves escaping freedom from the South. She used landmarks, hideouts, and songs to lead Cassie to her brother the same way she did to help free slaves. ( )

This was a very good book that illustrates the impact of the Underground Railroad. In the story she is the train conductor that is taking two children back in time to experience what it was like. The book did a great job teaching expression to it's reader and it also has great picture detail along with beautiful colors. ( )

This book tells of two children (Be Be and Cassie) and their adventure traveling the Underground Railroad to Canada to freedom. Aunt Harriet (Tubman) directs these two to each stop and the children meet many interesting people and see many new things. Though the children are separated at the beginning of the story when Cassie misses the train, but they keep in contact through notes left along the way. The children experience the feelings of what the slaves before them went through on their trip to achieve freedom.
Classroom:
I think this book would be a great book to jump off for a unit on the underground railroad. This book is simple and would be a great introduction to the underground railroad, giving students a starting an idea of what slaves went though looking for freedom.
