I found the book Where Once There Was a Wood to be very disappointing for several reasons. The first reason is that the book is very disjointed and it is very hard to understand what is going on. Also, the amount of sentence fragments to start the book is confusing and creates a loss of focus from the reader. The other reason I found the book to be disappointing was that the pictures were difficult to understand and often confusing for the reader rather than adding information. The book did have several good qualities. One thing the author did that I enjoyed was give information about the creatures mentioned. I also really enjoyed that the author gave information in the back of the book about how to be in harmony with nature. The overall message was the need to protect our natural environment and I enjoyed how the author gave ideas on how children could do that. ( )

This book depicts how things in life change. How once again a species of creation have been taken out of their natural habitat. ( )

I personally didn’t like this book that much. The whole story consisted of only 1 long sentence. The meaning of the story was somewhat powerful, and told of the impact that industrialization and construction plays on our environment. There were no main characters, so it wasn’t as easy to connect to the story. The illustrations were nice and colorful, and portrayed the images the text was telling, so I did like the illustrations. This book would probably be more enjoyable for younger readers because it is quick, and an easy read because each pages only contains abut 5-10 words. Therefore I would the book to be somewhat dull and I didn’t find myself really enjoying the story. ( )
