Ragnarok appears to have come for the gods of Asgard, and only Thor and his Avengers allies might be able to stave off that fate - but will the Thunder God be Asgard's savior, or the architect of its downfall? In search of new wisdom, Thor must repeat the ordeals of Odin - and the price may be too terrible for even an immortal to pay! Beset on all sides by treacherous foes from his past, the God of Thunder leads the tattered remnants of the forces of Asgard on a desperate quest, as the Realm Eternal burns. This is the first (and only) Thor comic I've read, so it made for something of an odd start., it being the end (for a time anyway). While it was decent, at times it felt very heavily like Ragnarok retold in comic form (Fenrir eating sun, check; ship of nails, check, etc). The heavy use of narration didn't help either. It improved somewhat when it added the old ones and such less foreseeable developments. In the end, however, it's still Ragnarok., and ends with nearly everyone's death as expected. Although the motivation and means are different.

Also confusing to me, not having read any Thor comics, but having seen the movies, was the parts about Thor's human nature. No idea what was meant by that, other than it somehow made it outside the purview of the over-gods.

The art was quite enjoyable, and fit well with the story. ( )

One of the best Thor stories from Marvel comics, ever. A great way to end a series and the close of the classic Thor. ( )

Too rushed, and the Avengers tie-in is stupid. But the modernizing of the Norse myth actually kind of works, the space philosophy is stirring, and Marvel should have looked at this before they did Siege, to remind them that the way to make these immortals seem amazing (and worth spending cashes on) is to have their deaths mean something, not to have them carved up in their dozens by Wolverine's kid and Bullseye.
