We Go Together effectively teaches young children about pairs of things that belong with each other, such as “socks and shoes” and “bees and honey.” This book is appropriate for parents or grandparents to read aloud to their children or grandchildren. The use of minimal text and patterned language (in this case, rhythm, rhyme, and repetition) throughout the book make for a fast-paced, predictable read that young children will enjoy.

Each page of this book includes a vibrantly colored, detailed pen and ink drawing that illustrates the example being given in the text. As such, the pictures help children to not only recognize pairs, but also to connect mental images with words. Additionally, since the pictures include more details than simply the pairs being described, they can be used as teaching tools by which to instruct children about colors, numbers, animals, body parts, etc.

One slight criticism of this book is that on the last page, there is an illustration of a young girl hugging her mother and saying, “I love you!” Although this book is not necessarily just for girls, this picture might give the impression that it is more of a girl’s book than a book for boys. ( )

This book is good to show how a friendship works. I loved the big pictues and colors!
