A bold attempt at innovation for D&D and the d20 magic system, and therefore guaranteed to be unpopular with many traditional gamers. Incarnum is presented as power derived from tapping into cosmic soul energy (which for some reason is perceived in shades of blue), but that's just the trappings and flavor of this new magic. The game mechanics of incarnum involve the allocation ("investment") of essentia points into feats, special abilities, and "soulmelds." Soulmelds are the foremost tools of incarnum, and blend the rules for spells and magic items. Gamers looking for a D&D magic system beyond the spells-per-level-per-day paradigm may find Magic of Incarnum to be just what they wanted, though the soulmeld and chakra rules will take time to learn. Unlike Tome of Magic, Magic of Incarnum includes several feats and rules to allow core d20 classes to incorporate this new sub-system. ( )
