This is an English folk tale similar to Rumpelstiltskin. The King offers to marry an ordinary young girl but only if she can spin flax into five skeins each day. She gets help from a weird little creature only if she can guess his name, which happens to be Tom Tit Tot.
The illustrations in this book were done using wood carvings which I learned about after reading this. It’s a really unique way to achieve a desired effect in colors and texture. ( )

Tom Tit Tot is a small, magical creature who offers to help a young woman with her impossible sewing requirements. The woman gets herself into trouble by eating too many pies, then marries a king who has eyes only for her spinning wheel, and Tom Tit Tot makes a deal to save her life. She has to guess his name to prevent trading one form of servitude for another. ( )
