I can see us returning to these stories time and time again. ( ) This is one of my all time favorite books for boys. We own several Barefoot Books, which come with an audio CD. The stories are fanciful and often have a message. The vocabulary is appropriate for children ages 4 and up. The beauty of these books is after reading some of the stories to your child, he or she can listen to them over and over on the CD, building vocabulary and proper written word usage. This swashbuckling collection of pirate tales is brimful with drama and adventure on the high seas. Especially compiled for young readers, these tales combine a rich variety of storylines with lively vocabulary. Perfect for reading aloud and handsomely illustrated, 'The Barefoot Book of Pirates' is a truly spirited anthology. In these pages, young children will be shipped away to some fantastical places that will both enthral and delight. In the humorous Scottish tale, they will discover how the evil crew of pirates gets more than they bargain for when they come ashore to loot the abbey and attempt to steal its bells; they will see what happens to a foolhardy merchant and his servant in "The Ship of Bones," a spooky tale from Africa; and they will meet the infamous lady pirate, Grace O'Malley, one of Ireland's most feared seafarers.
