It addresses such issues as the birth-pang concept in the Bible and ancient Judaism, the biblical concept of the Day of the Lord, the relationship of the Day of the Lord to the Time of Jacob's Trouble and the Great Tribulation, the identification of the sealed scroll of Revelation 5, the significance of the seals, the imminent coming of Christ, the analogy of John 14:2-3, the relationship of the Rapture to the coming of Christ with His holy angels, the relationship of church saints to the wrath of God, the significance of 2 Thessalonians 2, the implications of both the 70-weeks prophecy of Daniel 9 and the references to Israel and the church in the book of the Revelation, the meaning of the last trump, and why the timing of the Rapture has practical implications for daily living and ministry. The first one I read is called Maranatha: Our Lord Come!, by Renald Showers. It is a "definitive study of the rapture of the church." This is the first book that I have read by Renald Showers and I found it to be very thorough. The claims that are made by this book are very well substantiated, sometimes by many different lines of reasoning. At the end of every chapter there is a summary of conclusions made in that chapter. Very well reasoned. Very thorough.
The book is divided into two parts, (1) introductory concerns and (2) implications for a pretribulational rapture. Both of these sections contain much insight that I learned a lot from and the arguments went far beyond what I had expected.
There is one thing I would like to say, however, about this book that I feel could have been improved. I would not recommend reading this book if it will be the first you will read on the subject. There is a lot of good information in the first part of this book that did not seem to be very relevant to me since I did not understand the issues involved. Showers does not interact specifically with the other views, but rather only with issues. After I read the book below, a lot more of the argumentation in Maranatha made good sense. If you are already familiar with the other views on the rapture, however, I think this book will be much more valuable.
