Can we create a government that is small, efficient, and responsive--from the state house to the White House? Is that kind of real change even possible? Newt Gingrich says it's time for citizens to demand results from our elected officials. He shows how America can achieve transformational change--from a bureaucratic failure to a government that can meet the challenges of the 21st century. First, he busts the myth that America is divided between conservative red states and liberal blue states--the American people are united on almost every important issue facing our country, including immigration, taxes, defending America, and freedom of religion. America believes overwhelmingly that we need a change in course--but our politicians aren't listening. Gingrich reveals why the Democratic Party can't deliver real change and why the Republican Party won't. He provides answers and a step-by-step, issue-by-issue toolkit for building a better America.--From publisher description.… (mehr)

Newt has always impressed me with his intelligence. One of the things I respect most about him (other than his conservative principles and ideals) is the fact that he's a history teacher. Not an attorney. Newt's "Real Change" is a refreshing, market-based, faith-in-the-individual book that should be read and considered by all Americans. I think the last few appendix topics about terrorism and how we might have dealt with it, are especially poignant. I was saddened by Newt's transgressions 10+ years ago, but his poor judgment on personal affairs doesn't mean his political ideas don't have value. America could benefit a great deal by following many of Newt's ideas. ( )

Here's how the Newt starts his new book:

The media tell us America is a nation divided between conservative red states and liberal blue states. They tell us that red and blue are qqually divided - which is why elections are so close, why Congress seems gridlocked, and why nothing ever seems to get done in Washington.

But this is simply not true. The reality is the American people are united on almost every important issue facing our country. The real division is between red-white -and-blue America (about 85 percent of the country) and a fringe on the left (about 15 percent of the country).

Translation: I know that your, dear reader are a true patriotic American, not like those elitist lefties on your TV, telling you what to think. You are going to agree with me because I'm a true patriotic American, too. You and I know what's really going on, they can't fool us. Can I interest you in used car?

The Newt goes on to explain how a new less partisan politics is needed and how only the Republican party can bring this about because Republicans stand for truth, justice and the American way, unlike those evil Democrats, plotting their tax and spend takeover of the world by trial lawyers from Holywood. Real Change means more of the same in prettier packaging brought to you by the party of Exxon and Peabody Coal.

Real Change is a piece of excrement written by one of the architects of the current partisan, all or nothing, party loyalty before national interest, politics. Don't bother to read it. If you're a dittohead you can get the same stuff more entertainingly from that big mouth on your AM radio. If you're not it will be bad for your blood pressure. Newt is one of those politicians who is so crooked he has to screw his socks on in the morning.

This man is an ideas factory, and this book is no different. I often say he's the smartest man in either party, and if you can't agree with me on that, I hope you can at least agree that he's the most original thinker in either party. This book covers everything: healthcare, immigration, prison system, science and space, etc. And it's not some predicatble anti-government screed - it's a very throughful set of ideas that VERY few of our elected officials would a) ever come up with on their own and b) have the guts to try and enact them.

He wrote this in early 2008 when he was considering a run for the White House. I expect we'll see another toward the end of 2011. I hope he finally makes a go this time. If only to dramatically shift the debates in the both the GOP and presidential contests. I think very few would stand a chance against him in a debate. ( )

When reading this book it must be taken into consideration that the author is a Conservative Republican, therefore, the solutions he presents are going to be of a conservative nature. What this book is not, however, is praise the Republicans and bash the Democrats. Mr. Gingrich takes an honest look at the problems facing America today and presents conservative solutions to those problems. He doesn't claim that his solutions are the only solutions, however, he does look at them from the conservative side. He explains how each problem he addressed developed and doesn't shy away from who made the poor decisions that created the multitude of problems. His emphasis on most problems is getting the general public involved as whatever level we are capable of. He advocates everything from writing our Representatives and Senators to running for local office. He pushes for a grass roots effort to take back control of our government. The book does seem a bit of a commercial for his website and organization American Solutions. All this considered the book is worth a read and even if you disagree with his solutions to each problem it truly does get you thinking about the problems we face, different ways to solve each problem and to ponder whether the reader is doing all that they can for their country besides complain.” ( )
