Keine aktuelle Diskussion zu diesem Buch. this was boring and trite. japanese gothic horror. makes you think it might get horrific many times but no, everything about this book can be garnered from looking at the cover. the protagonist is weak and easily hate-able, the plot is fine but i could see the ending coming from a mile away. not impressed. Okay, so this book is...odd. It's a quick read (read it just today, even with homeschool and parenting and a broken dishwasher vying for my attention) and a little cliched in spots with some questionable leaps, but I found it enjoyable. Time will tell whether I retain any of the details or if this one becomes one of the books I remember only because I've posted about it. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
The Shito family: eight peopple, four generations, one household, with young newly wed Noriko joining the clan to make nine. The family is comfortaby well-off and it seems as if noriko's happiness is assured... until, that is, she begins to suspect that her new in-laws' charming eccentricities may in fact contain hints of something more sinister. Exploring themes of ambiguity and perversion, Asa Nonami portrays family life as a kind of microcosmic religion, in which one must ultimately make the choice of being a believer' or a 'heretic'.' As a horror novel, it falls flat - there's just nothing scary here. Likewise, as a thriller or mystery, there's not really much going on. Probably the best way to summarize the story is "young woman joins cult", and it regrards to that, the book is much more subtle that such a description would imply.
The book was extremely easy to put down and stop reading, and the reasons for that are no doubt cultural. There is a sense of the woman's place in the family, and of how women typically behave in the face of adversity, that in the States went out with the 50s. ( )
