Robinson Crusoe(The first book in this volume) is such a great story. At times you may wonder how a man in his position managed to stay so upbeat, but under all the writing it is made clear that his mental struggles were always on the surface and very real. The writer shows that the way to survive a situation such as Crusoe's is to keep yourself occupied. ( )

Wonderful in every way. Defoe may be known for Crusoe, but the reader is cheating himself if he only reads this one work. Moll Flanders is better and A Journal of the Plague Year is his best as far as I'm concerned. A terrific writer who puts today's critically acclaimed favorites to shame. ( )
