This book is about a pair of siblings and their life after a tsunami hits in Thailand. Losing their home and father. But how they rebuild their lives. This could help a child who has family in another country or state that is experiencing a natural disaster. It could help them have ideas on how to help. Age-4-8 Source- Yelm Library I enjoyed this book for a couple of reasons. I like the clear and beautiful photography of Thailand. This really helps the reader imagine what Thailand looks like because not all readers have been to Thailand. The photography shows what Thailand looks like after a tsunami too. The author manipulates the reader by telling the story of two boys that lost their home and father to the tsunami. This makes the reading more interesting because the author includes a personal story while informing the reader with facts about the first tsunami in Thailand. The subtitles under some of the photographs are also very helpful. For example, below a picture of cars and boats the author includes, “Boats that had been tied at piers along the beach were found inland, and cars were tossed about in the water as if they were toys.” This example also shows that the author used a simile to emphasize how badly the cars and boats were destroyed. The big idea of the story is to help others and have hope during natural disasters. Zeige 4 von 4 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

In cooperation with UNICEF, Millbrook Press has created this poignant photographic journey of a family in the aftermath of the devastating tsunami. A portion of the proceeds of each book sold will go to the tsunami relief effort. The devastation of the recent Tsunami affects everyone, including children. Ann Morris and UNICEF photographer Heidi Larson traveled to the region of Thailand hit by the recent Tsunami to tell the story of a family before and after the event. The book discusses the family's experience during the storm and the chaos immediately following. But the focus is on what life was like immediately after the disaster: coping with loss; the availability of food, shelter, and clothing; post-flood disease control; and the children's attempt at re-entry into elementary school life.
