From the Not Just Proms & Parties high-low series for reluctant teen readers and ESL students, which features quick reads, dynamic, character-driven plots, and positive messages for young women. Dating in high school is hard enough, but when you're gay? Forget it! Belinda is convinced there's no such thing as love, until she runs into her summer fling, and thinks they may be able to rekindle their romance. But when she sees her mom walking arm in arm with a man who is not Belinda's father, her parents' marriage suddenly becomes the focus in her life. Obsessed with the affair that could break up her family, Belinda ignores the people closest to her. In the end, she realizes that no one is perfect, and that she's lucky to have caring family and friends that accept her for who she is. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

BELINDA'S OBSESSION by Patricia G. Penny is one of the latest in the NOT JUST PROMS & PARTIES series. Short (less than 140 pages) and fast-paced, it offers a typical teen dilemma, plus incorporates an important lesson.
Belinda is struggling with her own issues -- falling in love with Candice, a girl she met last summer. Acknowledging privately that she is gay took a lot of guts. Now she is at the point where she knows she needs to take a more public step.
Belinda's personal issues are overshadowed when she stumbles onto the knowledge that her mother might be having an affair. At the expense of her own new relationship, she begins to investigate. Her parents have been married for twenty-one years. How could her mother be living this other secret life?
This is a nice series, especially for reluctant readers. Teen girls will appreciate the smooth flowing prose and likeable characters. Published as lower-priced paperbacks, the series is also quite affordable for public or personal libraries. ( )
