Independent Reading Level: K-1

I love Elephant and Piggie! This book is good to have in a classroom because it is a series, so if a student likes one, they can easily find more that they will like. This is an early readers book, so big fonts in 2-4 word phrases. It is an older book, but good to just get students started if they like fiction and books about friends. Good for 1st and 2nd grade. Mo Willems' books are highly readable, funny, and always perfect for read alouds. His collection of Elephant and Piggie early readers are hilarious yet endearing, and teaches the value of friendship. ( )

Surprises look like fun! Piggie and Gerald decide to surprise each other...and they do! ( )

This book is about elephant and piggy, who are friends. They run into two squirrels who are playing a game with each other. The squirrels are hiding behind a rock and "surprising" each other. Elephant and Piggy think it would be a good idea for them to do that too. Except for them, they kept running around and around the rock not finding each other, until the end.
