I think these books are rather annoying. ( )

I really enjoyed this picture book. There were many reasons why I enjoyed this book. One reason was the illustrations and pictures. I enjoyed how certain pages had comic-style pictures, but other pages had real paintings of George Washington. I think this helps make the transition from children’s illustration to adult art.
Another reason I enjoyed this book was because of the way the text was written. It was simplified in many ways. One example of this is when the author is describing why the colonies wanted to break away from Britain. He described the British King as follows: “He did lots of things that weren’t very nice.” I thought that this was a very effective tool in this level of literature.
The main idea of this book is that George Washington did many incredible things leading up to his becoming of ‘the Father of our country.’ ( )

I didn't like this book because the illustrations weren't very nice and the writing didn't have a good flow. The illustrations in the book were half actual photos of George Washington and the other half were comic illustrations. Having both type of images in the book made it a little hard to take the text seriously because the comics said humorous things. I also didn't like the author's writing because the choppiness of information. Each page seemed to state separate facts rather than having an easy flow of facts. Facts also repeated throughout the book. For example, on page one it says, "George Washington was the first president of the United States." On page twenty-nine it says, " In 1789, George Washington was elected the first president of the United States of America." These crosses of information really made the text unorganized.
The main idea point of this biography is to tell a little about George Washington's personal life and how he was elected into the presidential position. ( )

Could be used on Presidents Day or on George Washington’s birthday. We can learn a little about him and how he became the first president of the United States.

I like the way this book explained the circumstances leading up to the Revolutionary War. I was worried about how to approach such weighty issues with my 6-yr-old, who had a presentation due on Washington, and I found this book quite helpful. ( )
