Eskimo legend tells of a beautiful maiden, Sedna, who marries a mysterious, handsome hunter only to discover that he is really a demon. This tale tell us what is the origin of the Goddess of the Sea for the Eskimo (Inuit) people. This myth reflects its origin by revealing the central importance of the Arctic Ocean for the Eskimo people. Eskimos look after their goddess Sedna for goodwill whenever they need protection or help harvesting the abundant food sea provides them. The illustrations are beautifully executed and reflect the journey of the maiden and her transformation into the Goddess of the Sea. The Song of Sedna retells the tale of Sedna, an eskimo who became the sea goddess eskimos have revered through the ages. The character is a strong female character both physically and spiritually, following her heart, dreams and sense of justice--all great values to bestow on young minds. The illustrations are intricate, beautiful and often dreamlike. I recommend this book as an example of depicting a positive, strong female mythological character. I also appreciate the elements of forgiveness and respect for the spirit realm. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
