She fought for women's rights to vote and be paid equally and she fought to end slavery because she believed in equality. ( ) Biography Review: This book is about Susan B. Anthony and her fight for equality for women. She spoke for many years about how women should be given equal opportunities as well as receive equal pay and the right to vote. Critique: This is a good Biography because it focuses heavily on what she believed personally. It is also a good biography because it provides information in the form of a short story, not with large drawn out sentences and paragraphs. This historical non-fiction opened up by letting the readers know that Susan was born in Massachusetts to a Quaker family in 1820. They believed in women's rights and Susan's grandmother taught her how to read. Susan began to notice the inequality in the schoolhouse and wanted to change this; she became a teacher when she grew up and made $7.50 less than the male teachers. The older she got, the more she began to notice the inequality between the sexes. She then went on to join the temperance movement and eventually met a woman named Elizabeth Cady Stanton - a writer. The two traveled together and wrote speeches advocating for women's rights. After the Civil War, Susan continued to fight for women's rights through her words and speeches. In 1868, Elizabeth and Susan started their own newspaper called "The Revolution" which spread many revolutionary ideas. Because of Susan's actions and hard work, people began changing their minds about women's rights. Susan died in 1906. The last pages are reserved for more information about Susan's timeline, her family, and a glossary of words that are not used in every day exchanges.
