"Sharp's aim is dead on in her stunning . . . fourth book to star ultra-cool biker chick Charlie Fox . . . [a] crisp, original thriller." Publishers Weekly (starred review)
It should have been an easy one. After Special Forces training and a wee sojourn at a school for would-be killers, Charlie has a plush assignment: Baking her chilly British bones in the Florida sunshine minding a mogul's kid. But then the mogul-daddy disappears, Charlie's boyfriend/boss goes on radio silence, and suddenly she's up there all alone, the wind whipping as she stares into the drop, a scream rising from her chest, and all of it in a country where you can't get a decent beer.
"Absolutely riveting." Chicago Tribune
"Intense . . . a nail-biting chase." Cleveland Plain Dealer
Praise for Zo Sharp and the Charlie Fox series
"If Jack Reacher were a woman, he'd be Charlie Fox." Lee Child, #1 New York Times bestselling author
"Zo Sharp is one of the sharpest, coolest, and most intriguing writers I know. She delivers dramatic, action-packed novels with characters we really care about." Harlan Coben, #1 New York Times bestselling author
"The bloody bar fights are bloody brilliant and Charlie's skills are formidable and for real." The New York Times
"As action-packed and streamlined as the Suzuki the main character, a self-defense expert, rides. Zo Sharp has an apt last name." David Morrell, New York Times bestselling author<

A female Jack Reacher (for those of you who read Lee Child). Finally a woman who kicks ass and takes names!! Looking forward to reading next one. ( )

Charlie's first trip to the US turns into a bloody shambles, literally and figuratively as she drives and shoots her way through Daytona Beach, Florida. Problems abound but so do solutions so of which require her to cap the odd sometime even the even hit man or two. She does quite wall considering that she starts out with only 8 bullets in her borrowed Sig Sauer. Quick and certainly action filled read. ( )

I was disappointed. Charlie is British, sent to Florida to be a bodyguard for a 15 year old boy, and trouble, lots of it ensues. This book did not come together for me - it seemed disjointed, way too much gunfire to be even remotely believable. ( )

I was looking for a hot book with a snappy leading lady, but Charlie is just a boyish girl with some talent at weapon wielding.

First Drop refers to the roller coaster ride on which the story opens. Charlie is body guard to sullen 14 year old Trey, son of a financial software designer whose program is worth big money. A kidnap attempt on Trey and the disappearance of Trey's father and the body guard team set them on the run.

The pace however drops like the dizzying end of real ride and slows to a wobble, never really recovering. The menaces are pedestrian, and Charlie talks in her head at the expense of snappy exchange that might engage the reader in some ironic aspect of her, her situation.

Light on characters. Not quite my cup of tea. ( )

1st in the Charlie Fox series.

The protagonist is a 26 year old woman who is ex-British Army and who has agreed to join the protection agency run by her former lover. She takes a job in the US to serve as bodyguard for a spoiled teen-aged son of a supposed computer programming whiz.

The premise of the series’ protagonist is very good, and the story has definite promise. Also, part of the setting for the action, which is nicely non-stop, is the Spring Break Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida--exotic and fun. The plotting is good if not outstanding.

The problem with the book is the writing, which barely makes it above mediocre. It gets in the way of what could have been some interesting characters—teenagers. But Sharp's descriptive skills are not up to making these kids real. Her charge, in particular, is so sadly drawn that you wind up feeling sorry for him because Sharp is so limited in understanding and writing ability. The emotional connection between Charlie and her ex-lover Sean is written so badly that you wince every time it comes up, and start wishing for blood, guts and bodies so that you can wipe out the memory of the “romance”.

Too bad, because, again, the premise is intriguing. But it’s not a series in which I’ll read further. ( )
