I have just finished this the third book in The Heaven Tree Trilogy, and wow what a fabulous journey it has been! I loved it. The author Edit Pargiter has a style of writing that although quite wordy and at first old fashioned is exactly the right style for the story, and has you on the edge of the seat wondering how it will all work out. Harry has been a hostage of Ralf Isambards for 4 years, since the day he came to kill Isambard in revenge for his fathers death. Isambard plays some hard, cruel blows upon him and Harry hates him with a passion (or does he?) They have been though wars and hardships, anger and oddly kindly times over the 4 years and Harry comes to respect the old man and I think revere him. The book definitely draws you though each and every heartbreak and keeps you enthralled and mesmerised to the very end. Excellent read, I shall be keeping and reading again, thats for sure! This book tends to gather all the threads of the story introduced in books 1 & 2. Harry comes to respect Isambard who has come to love Harry and seeks to redeem himself thru that nurturing. Parfois, Isambard's stronghold/fortress/castle eventually falls to Llewelyn. Harry realizes the horrible cost of war, and decides he must follow his father as a master mason -- to build rather than destroy. Zeige 5 von 5 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

In the castle of Parfois, glaring down over the debated lands of the Welsh border, young Harry Talvace is held prisoner by his father's sometime patron and later destroyer, Ralph Isambard. Captive and captor, bound together by implacable hatred and reluctant affection, seem doomed to stalemate. Then the threat of civil war in England lays Isambard open to his enemies, and Harry abruptly reaches self-knowledge and maturity. The story reaches a strange and violent climax as the principal characters are drawn together in the final siege of Parfois under the towering shadow of the first Harry's master-work, the great church he gave his life to finish.. A plausible but not depressingly grimdark take on the bloody politics of the early Middle Ages. The prose is vivid and gorgeous, and I had tears in my eyes in the final chapters.
