( ) A mystery with a lab as the main character, and he narrates the book - how could I say no to that? I couldn't. As mysteries go, I put it alongside the Tea Shop series that I read - more for the entertainment of the characters and the series feature [i.e. teashop or happy chubby adorable labrador] than the puzzle of the mystery. I'll definitely be getting the first book to enjoy more lab mystery time. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. The second in the Bull Moose Run series, "A Dog Among Diplomats" is a perfectly serviceable elegant mystery. It's just that the detective in question is an extremely intelligent dog, that's all.On the whole I'd suggest you read the first book first. "A Dog Among Diplomats" can be read as a standalone but it's a little weak by itself and the first was better anyway. But the situations are fun, the characters are interesting, and while the pacing is a little slow it'll get you there eventually. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. I think I might have liked this book better if I had started with the first one. This book is a prime example of why reading books in order for proper character development and understanding is crucial to come book series. I got halfway through the book, and still knew very little about the main character, his dog, or the girlfriend they were searching for. It just couldn't hold my interest. Other authors have incorporated pets into their series with much more grace and effect than this author has used the dog character; however I will admit I am not much of a dog person. Perhaps if I were, i would have found this book more charming and less tedious. Someday I will find the first book and try it, but it is way down on my list. Still love Randolph but this was a weak sequel to A Dog About Town. Maybe I wouldn't feel this way if the kitchen scene with Blinko hadn't happened. Up 'til then it was tongue-in-cheek believable (okay - as believable as a reading, talking dog can be). Still want to see more of this series but I hope the next book is better. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

He reads Proust. Surfs the net. Is the soul of diplomacy. And when it comes to solving crime, Randolph is the dog for the job. Murder has come to Manhattan's East Village. And when detectives call twenty-something artist Harry to the scene, his Labrador, Randolph, instantly smells a rat. Why? Because Harry's missing almost-fiancée--and Randolph's beloved mistress--has been implicated in the murder, which has ties to the U.N. While Harry looks to the spirit world for answers, careening between terror and wild hope that Imogen is alive, Randolph goes into detective mode, using his superior Lab brain--2.3 pounds of smoothly functioning gray matter--to surf the Net, track down clues, and even land a job as a "therapy" dog to a depressed diplomat. Suddenly the brainy, book-loving Lab has done the impossible: he's penetrated the shadowy corridors of the U.N. (which boasts the most vicious, backbiting dog run in the city) in search of a killer. Now it will take all of Randolph's cunning to protect Harry, clear Imogen's name, solve the crime--and stay alive long enough to enjoy his upcoming birthday.
