 Another commentary on Jeremiah and Lamentations, also based on the NIV, is Huey's in NAC (Broadman 1993). Longman's commentary excels in both literary analysis and ANE extrabiblical ties. However, Huey is more consistently conservative and far more cognizant of conservative evangelical contributions to the study of both biblical books. Used in tandem, the strengths of each might successfully counteract the weaknesses of the other.
The New International Biblical Commentary (NIBC) offers the best of contemporary scholarship in a format useful both for general readers and serious students. Based on the widely used New International Version translation, the NIBC presents careful section-by-section exposition with key terms and phrases highlighted and all Hebrew transliterated. A separate section of notes at the close of each chapter provides additional textual and technical comments.
