the closest that I've ever come to being a were-bear, or any other were-creature. Mr. Davidson's best book in a body of work that makes such comparisons hard to do. I've reread this a lot from the organized reread to the dip for several pages. (

This book is along the same lines as the Vergil series in being a sort of idiosyncratic re-imagining of ancient history and legends. Like the Vergil novels it is quite strange, but rewarding. Set in the mythical far-northern land of Ultima Thule, it explores themes of animal transformation and forge mysticism. (
