The reviewer sat down solemnly contemplating each and every tangent in front of her, wich letter should she start with? It seemed an impossible task far beyond her vast knowledge of words, yet she knew it to be her duty. She tossed back her tousled and luxurious mane of hair in a impatient gesture.

She sat still as the burning day plummeted into the nights shadows...wanting to attend to her writing a rewiew. A review she harbored a great need to write..but a need that scared her. Yet she felt pulled towards it with the fervor of the tantalizing unknown.

Her dislike of the book grew and grew, lightening a fire in her mind to right the unjustice she had suffered in wasting her time on a book so greatly insufficient to her reading. She had not been able to believe her widening clear eyes, like a quiet magical pond,as she followed the words down the page.

... and this is how Rosehaven is written.Overly melodramatic with a too perfect heroine and a too imperfect hero. Maybe it was written in the 1970s-80s (the age of the ripped bodice) I thought. But not it states clearly it was published in 1997 Bodice ripper romances can be fun (in a guilty way) to read..this...was just painful. ( )

I actually really like this book. The characters were really well written in the sense that I never found myself wondering who was who. The book also was good at making you put yourself in the characters shoes. Many times through the book I found myself laughing, or in rage at certain characters wishing something horrible would happen to them bringing them to a tortuous death. I enjoy books that are able to make the reader feel strong emotions like that.

Some areas were kind of annoying such as some of the romance as some felt a little cringy. There is also some of that rapish sex. One of those romances that pit the main characters hating each other where the hate eventually turns to love.

I haven't read the other books in the series, and honestly reading this book didn't feel like I needed to. I may read this book again in a few years. ( )

Good not great. Fairly typical historical romance. ( )

I really enjoyed this book although for a great deal of it I wanted to reach in and smack Severin across the back of the head. Besides, how could you not like a book with such a loveable Marten as Trist? Hastings was a naive but very likeable character and I found myself rooting for her to find her happily ever after without having to turn into a sheep with no opinion and who had to let her husband trample all over her. Severin eventually worked his way into my good graces although I still think he needs to kiss Hastings feet to make up for some of the atrocities he submitted her too.

The twist and turns with the plot involving Lady Marjorie, Severin’s past love, and Eloise, the daughter of the man who wanted to steal Hastings to gain her land, kept me turning the pages.

Stop here if you do not want any spoilers.

I’m glad we find that Marjorie isn’t as much of a witch as she first comes across but I would have liked to see Eloise slowly come back to realize how well Hastings treated her when they first brought her home. It made me so angry to see how spiteful and conniving she has become at such a young age even though I knew it was because she loved Marjorie so much. It would have been nice to get some closure that Marjorie helped un-poison Eloise’s mind.

It was also funny to see the healer end up with Gwent. I certainly hope they have a happily ever after union.
