A series of accessible, fast-paced non-fiction narratives aimed at pre-teen and young teenage readersNothing obsessed Victorian era explorers more than the idea of a seaway from the Atlandc to the Pacific -- the North West Passage. Thousands searched for it in the icy maze of Canada's Arctic islands -- their hopes and dreams so often crushed by the brutal cold of the Arctic. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

Pierre Berton has created a series of history books for young readers. This is the second book in the 'Exploring the Frozen North series'. The writing is incredibly accessible and really draws you in to keep reading. Considering the event of the book took place over many years Berton did a great job keeping the pace of the book fast and at 85 pages the story is short enough to allow all level of reader to enjoy the book.
The book tells to story of John Franklin's attempt to find the North West Passage over North America and more importantly the exploits of Jane Franklin, his wife, at home in England as she single handedly made him a hero in her obsessive quest to find out what happened to him.
The book is filled with maps and some line drawing to make following the story very easy. ( )
