this was pretty good with a few twists ( )

This was the Wickham book I'd read, I realised pretty quickly, but I reread it anyway because it was a treat. Gorgeous exploration of the grass-is-greener idea and the romanticisation of nostalgia. ( )

The two main characters, and their love affair, are set up as if we should be rooting them along, and the writing is good enough that I almost did. However, the more we learn about Hugh, the more we hear his thoughts about Chloe or lack of thoughts pertaining his own children, we learn hes just your average misogynist. He treats Chloe like a conquest to be won, disregards her boundaries, and lies to his spouse throughout the end. Chloe is also apart of this affair of course, but at least she treats Hugh as a person. Unlikable characters but they are believably human. ( )

Once again I enjoyed Madeleine Wickham's book hugely. It was a very touching story about life itself, about love, past and about family. Of course there was the holiday factor and I think we all have had at leas one totally messed up holiday. I'm quite young still, the same age as Chloe and Hugh were when they first met so I couldn't really put myself into their shoes but still this was an amazing story.

The book itself was very quick paced so I read it really quickly. It took me about three days and I didn't read the whole time, I kept quite long breaks. It was very enjoyable reading experience and I learned a lot from it even though I'm still young and I have to wait a while to get into to that kind of situations.
