She’s seems to embody the inestimable Ms. Hepburn nearly perfectly. ( ) two acts, two eras of this incredible creative american woman's life . act one lives in 1938 at age 31, career in confusion in hollywood and by end of act 1 her pal phillip barry has sent her the play THE PHILADELPHIA STORY. act 2 lives in and 1983, at age 75, picking and choosing properties. both acts set in the living room of her beloved fenwick ... telling stories to the audience. some say selected details as presented in this play about hepburns life are inaccurate .. this may be true .. the overall arc of a singular human being living a singular life her own way ... feels true. and this is theatre after all. it feels true in the right actress's hands. i've seen it down twice by two different actresses to two different effects. give it a read. Kate Mulgrew as Katharine Hepburn in TEA AT FIVE has won standing ovations at each performance. The independent, intelligent, feisty Hepburn comes alive when Mulgrew slips deftly into the voice and being of the famous actress. The two-act play opens in 1938 when the actress is 31 years old and in the middle of a career slump. She is awaiting a call to see if she has won the part of Scarlet in a film called GONE WITH THE WIND. The story moved to 1983 when Parkinson's disease has left her voice shaking, her hand clutching a cane, but her eyes still shining with intelligence and wit. TEA AT FIVE is an unforgettable trip down Broadway, Hollywood Blvd, and memory lane. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
