Summary: The story of Amelia Earhardt told in a way that young children, especially girls, can identify with. The author takes you back to when she s little and try different experiments with planes and how she went against all odds and voices of doubt to make history.

Review: This is a great book to use in a classroom for a history lesson. It is set up in a way that children can identify with her as a child. It also is a great encourager for students to pursue their dreams and to never give up just because people don't believe in you.

In this book, Amelia Earhardt is immortalized for children as the first female to fly solo across the Atlantic. At a young age Amelia loved to create, and built a roller coaster which extending from her roof to the ground. Her first plane, the Canary flew 14,000 feet. In 1929 the first women's air Derby from Santa Monica, Ca to Cleveland, OH took place, in which she crash landed in Arizona. On May 20 1932 she flew across the Atlantic, her engine on fire landing safely in a farmer's field in Northern Ireland. I enjoyed this book. It depicts Amelia as the strong woman that she is. People would laugh and tell her she couldn't accomplish what she set out to do, and she displaced their belief. A good book with a good meaning, lets the little girl know that just because she bears the XY chromosome, she is still as capable as any brute of a man, and even better. ( )
