In the second book of the Nina Tanleven Mysteries, Nina, the world's number-one sixth-grade ghost buster, embarks on a treasure hunt with help from the ghost of a Civil War soldier Not too long ago, Nina Tanleven would never have thought that her dream vacation could take place at a creaky lodge in New York's Catskill Mountains. But when her architect father agrees to renovate the three-story inn, it's the perfect opportunity for Nina and her best friend, Chris, to investigate rumors that the rambling old building is haunted. It isn't long before they learn the truth: Not only is the place haunted by the ghost of a Confederate soldier, it also holds secrets that lead to a buried treasure!   The soldier hid his trove as a gift for the New York abolitionist who cared for him before he died, and his last wish is to see it unearthed. The clock is ticking as Nina and Chris race to solve the phantom's mysterious clues. But they aren't the only ones seeking the valuable bounty. Can they manage to find it first?   The Ghost Wore Gray is the second book of the Nina Tanleven Mysteries, which begin with The Ghost in the Third Row and continue with The Ghost in the Big Brass Bed.   This ebook features an illustrated personal history of Bruce Coville including rare images from the author's collection.… (mehr)

I love this series but this book gets a low rating on account of I have almost no sympathy for the actual ghost in the story. (SPOILERS AHEAD) Dude's a confederate army captain, and while he gains some redemption from that the fact remains that he spent a good portion of his adult life thinking it was ok to own human beings, and only changes his mind about that when a former slave saves his life. Still love the main characters. ( )

Second in the Nina Tanleven series. Nine and Chris find that, having met the Woman in White, they're now sensitive to other ghosts as well; they go with Nine's father to an old inn in upstate New York, which is (oddly) haunted by a Confederate soldier. They meet him, and find out (again) that there's a lot more to the story than what's generally known. The villain is truly nasty and comes to a truly nasty end, and the treasure gets delivered appropriately. The ending is, again, wonderful - the last run of the Underground Railroad. ( )

Nina and Chris see a ghost together and soon find themselves embroiled in his mystery. Who is this ghost, why is he here, and how can they help him? The girls soon discover that he was a confederate captain with a hidden treasure. They find the treasure and solve the mystery, and escape being nearly nabbed by someone else trying to solve it. ( )

Yet another story of two girls' encounter with a ghost of the (civil?) war. Happy ending. :) ( )
