This is the story of the only bear in a Russian orphanage. He sort of but not completely fits in there, but no one seems to want to adopt him. The illustrations brilliantly show the emotions of loneliness and outsiderness that Nikolai feels. He doesn't talk and doesn't act the same way as the other children. Until, one day, a very special couple from America take a chance on him and adopt him. They love him like he's special as well, and slowly he learns to speak and such. It's an adorable story and a wonderful metaphor as well. ( ) Charming. The subtly rhythmic text and the repetition of a few phrases, combined with the soft colors and the rounded faces, bodies, and trees in the illustrations were effective. Tears prickled in my eyes. I believe it's made an even more effective exploration of adoption because it reads like a surreal fantasy (think [a:Anthony Browne|35335|Anthony Browne|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1272902188p2/35335.jpg]) but is a specific story based on a true history. I think this is very relatable to any child who has ever felt like an outsider. This is a very heartwarming story and shows children that there is always someone that cares about them, no matter how far away they are. The character is adorable and paired with the great story, made me love it all the more. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
