This is an excellent read. The writer successfully blends suspense, mystery and romance into a plot which kept me reading and wanting more. Romance is not the focus of the story at all; the Ranger in question is trying to finish his investigation so he can get home but every twist and turn, each new piece of evidence draws him further into a community with which he wants nothing to do.

The author took a lot of time to replicate as closely as possible police procedures, chain of command, the role of the Texas Rangers in modern law enforcement, and many other details that make this a great mystery as well as a great romance. While the characters aren't exactly likable, they are human and they do have their redeeming qualities. ( )
