Densely written, Williams sometimes needs to trim his sentences from ten lines down to two or three to sustain clear meaning. It would be necessary, in order to do justice to his work however, to be far more thoroughly familiar with Dostoevsky's every passage and character than I could ever claim to be. What I can say is that Williams has rightly extrapolated from his subject a warning for our time: that a society that throws out consciousness of an Other is a society that faces decline to chaos. Williams should know. ( ) keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Rowan Williams explores the intricacies of speech, fiction, metaphor, and iconography in the works of one of literature's most complex, and most complexly misunderstood, authors. Williams' investigation focuses on the four major novels of Dostoevsky's maturity ( Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, Devils, and The Brothers Karamozov). He argues that understanding Dostoevsky's style and goals as a writer of fiction is inseparable from understanding his religious commitments. Any reader who enters the rich and insightful world of Williams' Dostoevsky will emerge a more thoughtful and appreciative reader for it. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
