Jean-Christophe Journey's End by Romain Rolland contains the stories Love and Friendship, The Burning Bush, and The New Dawn. Romain Rolland (1866 -1944) was a French dramatist, essayist, art historian and mystic who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1915. Rolland was strongly influenced by the Vedanta philosophy of India, through the works of Swami Vivekananda. Rolland wanted the theater to be accessible to everyone. He felt that a more democratic theater was necessary. Jean-Christophe is a novel, written in ten volumes published between 1904 and 1912, The first four volumes are sometimes grouped as Jean-Christophe, the next three as Jean-Christophe Paris, and the last three as La fin du voyage ("Journey's End"). This is the life story of Jean-Christophe a German musician. He struggles with his pride and the necessary of earning a living. Tormented by injustices against his friends, forced to flee on several occasions as a result of his brushes with authority and his own conscience, he finally finds peace in a remote corner of Switzerland. Years later he returns to Paris Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
