C’est l’époque de la crise économique de 1929, les enfants grandissent. La saga de la famille Caskey se poursuit dans un volume plus sombre et troublant que les précédents, axé sur d’autres personnages dont les relations entre eux s’affinent et qui perdent l’aspect caricatural des débuts. Les scènes finales, inattendues et particulièrement brillantes, ne peuvent qu’encourager à se procurer la suite. ( )

La tension monte encore d’un cran jusqu’à un événement auquel je ne m’attendais pas du tout et une redistribution des cartes au sein du clan. Comme pour une partie d’échec, des pièces majeures disparaissent et (fin de l’analogie) de nouvelles entrent en jeu.

Dans ces luttes où les femmes se battent pour le pouvoir, la rivière continue de démontrer le sien ainsi ses liens forts avec Elinor.

Toujours aussi gluant et putride, une vraie réussite qui entretient avec un grand talent la soif de connaître la suite ( )

It's funny, because I continue to look at this series as a guilty pleasure. Truly, it's mostly a southern gothic soap opera, but when McDowell brings the horror, it's a quiet horror, but no less disturbing for it.

Still, as I went through this third volume, I'm sure I looked like that stereotypical image of the bored 60s housewife, sitting on the sofa with an afternoon martini and bonbon or two, spellbound by the soap opera and almost spilling that martini as I exclaim, "Oh no she didn't!"

(And please note, that's not my image of any housewife ever, just the one that was perpetrated by Hollywood).

This series is a blast. I'm excited for the next one. ( )

This Southern Gothic soap opera continues to deliver!

The Perdido river runs through town and who knows what it brings with it? It seems in some cases to heal and in others to kill and building a levee didn't do a damn thing to contain all that. The river remains within its boundaries but its not happy about it.

I just can't get over how much fun I'm having with this series. It's a total blast and I would recommend it to anyone at this point-fans of soap operas, ghost stories,southern horror, southern gothic, creature features, mysteries, 80's horror and just plain rip-roaring FUN!

I can't say it enough...I love this series!
