This book is pretty simple but I expected it to be. As soon as I saw this on the shelf I knew I wanted to read it. I know Meghan McCain from the show The View. She was always my least favorite host. Her views are very different from mine and sometimes I found it hard to watch her. I gained a new perspective after her father John McCain recently passed away. There was so much media going on during his funeral I found myself watching it often. Ill never forget Meghan McCain's speech at her fathers funeral, it brought me to tears. While watching her speak i forgot about any of her political views and saw a girl that had just lost her Dad. If I would have read this book before I might have been biased and judged it more. Now I just see a book written by a girl who thinks the world of her dad. ( )

I don't normally read children's books, but I saw this one on a library display and thought it might be interesting to see how a picture book would deal with McCain's complicated life. This book is ostensibly a biography of the senator written by his daughter Meghan during the 2008 presidential election season. There's no mention of McCain's first marriage, or even of Sarah Palin. Instead, the cheerful, repeated message is that McCain "never gives up", whether that's as a prisoner of war, as a senator, or as a presidential candidate. The handsome illustrations make him look like quite the man for the job. Now that McCain has passed away, and the 2008 elections are in the distant political past, I expect that a new picture book will be commissioned as a tribute to this complex man. ( )

My Dad, John McCain is told in the perspective of John McCain's daughter. She is retelling her dad's life from the day he was born until his latest run for President. She tells how her dad grew up moving for naval base to naval base and how he played football and wrestling in school. She also says her dad grew much interest in the military and he knew he wanted to fly planes. She tells of his time fighting in the Vietnam war and how he broke his bones and became a prisoner for over 5 years. When he was set free, he was honored with many awards, got married, and had children. John McCain left the navy and entered his way into politics. He got into the House of Representatives and knew one day he wanted to run for President. John McCain's daughter tells how her dad would be a great President of the United States because he's the right person for the job and he will work really hard. She says her dad will never give up, just like he did when her was a prisoner. I liked reading the love she has for her dad. It's crazy to see everything he went through. This would've been a great book to read to children during the elections he ran for to have children have a better understanding of who is running for president. Now, I would just read it to show how strong John McCain was and how he never gave up. It's a great life lesson. The illustrations were done very well also. ( )

McCain' daughter tells us the life of McCain from the teenager until he was successful to be the president of the United States in the My Dad, John McCain. It shows us the McCain's strong faith which is the most important part in his success and never give up, thus I would want to use it in my teaching. I would want to teach my students never give up in every hard time. This book would be best four around 3rd or 4th graders. ( )

This book is about who John McCain is. What he was before he ran for president, and how he came to run. Great for preschool age.
