Def enjoyed reading this. ( ) A wonderful collection of some of King's stories made into movies. The stories in the collection include: "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" - you realise how good the film adaption was when you read the original "The Mangler" - I must admit I didn't know was written by King - love the movie - gory and silly "Children of the Corn" - A far better written story than movie - but I still loved the original movie. You just can't go past evil children "1408" - I had never read this, so was interested to see the original idea behind the movie. "Hearts in Atlantis - Low Men in Yellow Coats" - I had forgotten how much I loved this story. A great read. I had read all of these short stories before, so I'll be brief (I hope!). This is a short story collection of Stephen King's that have been made into movies! I must admit, I only grabbed it because I really liked the cover! :-) Least favorite story in here, for me, is "1408". Favorite, and one of my favorite of King's all-time, is "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption"! It's funny, after seeing the movie so many times, when I reread this, I couldn't do so without hearing Morgan Freeman's voice in my head! Seriously, he sort of owns this for me! Try it: "There's a guy like me in every state and federal prison in America, I guess - I'm the guy who can get it for you." Ahh... sweet music to my ears... The stories are all good, especially "Low Men in Yellow Coats." However they are all reprints, and the only new material is a quick one page intro by King for each story talking about how he liked the movie. I had hoped for a bit more than that. Still, a good collection if you haven't read the stories already. I was looking forward to this, but a little disappointed to see that the new sections are very brief. I was interested in reading the commentaries that King had on his movie adaptations. This has those, but only five and they are a page 1/2 or so each. It is still a good read, and the short stories are ones that I hadn't visited in a long time. It was like visiting old friends...I will give this book four stars, grudgingly. In truth, the stories themselves deserve five stars. But what felt like a deception on the part of the publisher and the brevity of King's new introductions bring this down some. I almost dropped it to two or three stars just for that. But honestly, judging the work from cover to cover, it is a great book. Four stars seems a fair middle ground. It sure had the potential to be so much more.... keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
For the first time in one volume, each with a fascinating introduction, come the stories of Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, Hearts in Atlantis (Low Men in Yellow Coats), 1408, The Mangler and Children of the Corn. These five classic tales were turned into successful international films starring some of the world's most famous actors from Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins in The Shawshank Redemption through Anthony Hopkins in Hearts in Atlantis to John Cusack in 1408. Now you can read and re-read and own the originals. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
