This book was an odd one for me because I read the older version YEARS ago. The heroine ended up with someone from the Fey kingdom, not a vampire. (Unless I'm really getting my stories confused. Always possible.) I liked the older version, so it took me a while to wrap my head around the newer version. I enjoyed it, perhaps not as much as the original, but I always quite like Christine Warren's work. ( )

Ava is friends with the 'monsters' but she's also kind of afraid of them, though she would hate to admit it. Then Ava is turned unwillingly into a vampire and she has to learn how to be one of the monsters. Thankfully she has Dima to help her along the way. There's some angst of course and Ava isn't the most lovable person to begin with but you learn why she is the way she is. ( )

It is not often that I find a character that I am not fond of in a story, especially a heroine. Ava is that exception. She is such a stuck up, arrogant, rude and stubborn person that I am not sure why she has any friends. Ava was part of the original five characters that started the series. She was the only one that had not had a HEA. At this point in the story, several years after the last of the friends has married an Orther, Ava has managed to alienate just about everyone. She tells the woman that have called her friend monsters and can barely tolerate being around them. I am guess that Fate decided to show her that Others can be decent beings as well. I really feel she gets what she deserves for being so mean to so many. It was nice to see Reggie show up in this book. I think that it is the first time she has appeared since the author went to a New York publisher. I liked Reggie and it was good to see that she and Misha are still happy. I also enjoyed learning more about Misha and his family. There isn't much sex in this book and I understand why there wasn't more. Overall this is a good addition to the series since there are gaps filled in for one of the older characters. I think anyone that like the paranormal genre will like this story. ( )
