/This book has a pedigree. Always with the student in mind, Careers in International Affairs (8th ed) is divided into two major parts--*Strategies* and *Types of Employers*, which include 14 chapters.
The first part consist of five chapters that range from essays on "Introduction to the International Affairs Job Market," "Interviewing," "Choosing a Graduate School," and "Consulting." For this edition a chapter has been added on "Networking."
The next part is the reference meat of the volume. Chapters 6 through 18 all begin with an essay penned by a Georgetown SFS alum. The remainder of each chapter is then a directory of resources and organizations in various international fields. The chapters are: "Careers in the U.S. Foreign Service,""International Organizations," "Banking," "Business," "International Development and Relief," and "Nonprofit and Educational Organizations." All 300 organizations listed for the 8th edition have been updated.
The editors' goals are to provide information on the understanding of international careers and what they offer; insight into the skills and knowledge employers seek; awareness of individual career potential, and ; guidlines for career choices.
As an inexpensive ($24.95) paperback, it should be on every would be international job searcher's book shelf. Public libraries may want to have a reference and circulating copy handy. ( )
