The stories weren't interesting enough, and the writing wasn't funny enough, for me to consider this book worth reading. The rating might seem harsh, because it wasn't awful, but it really felt like a waste of my time. ( )

This showed up one day on my LibraryThing page as a member-written book and intrigued (appalled?) by the title, I decided to grab a copy from my local library. The fact that my local library actually had a copy made me feel that this must be a book of some significance! What can I say? It is a marvelously written, marvelously observed, highly personal account of one woman's (the author's) wayward journey through life, featuring most prominently her son, her current common law husband, her ex-husband, and a host of other fascinating characters. I was afraid at first that I would have a hard time identifying with a book like this written by a woman, but so many of Ms. Joseph's observations about the nature of human beings and of life are so spot on and match my own, that she won me over only a few pages into the book.

One of the most purely enjoyable reads I have had in some time. Funny, true, and occasionally touching. As a writer, Ms. Joseph holds nothing back, and it is her weaving of her own weaknesses, bad decisions, and other life events into the narrative that makes her portraits of other people ring so true.
