Following the success of the Fourth World titles, Kirby brought comics fans his most shocking creation yet: THE DEMON! Summoned from the stygian depths by Merlin himself to defend the legendary kingdom of Camelot, a rhyme-slinging hell-spawn known as Etrigan was bound to this mortal coil through the body of his all-too-human host, Jason Blood. But Etrigan's adventures would continue far beyond the mythic and medieval past. Living on into the present day, Jason Blood became one of the DC Universe's most powerful masters of magic and the occult-and through it all, his demonic alter ego has stood at the ready, ever eager to unleash his infernal powers in the service of Blood's undying battle against evil!… (mehr)

The stories were entertaining though occasionally it seemed that they would wrap up suddenly due to lack of space more than anything else. The art is classic Kirby and produces a cool, creepy vibe like from a 60's Batman colored occult horror movie of the early 70's (the time the comics were originally published). I would recommend this book to those who like cheesy old horror-hero type comics with faux occultism as only a comic-book could present it particularly if you like monsters as there is at least one monster per issue. I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would. Usually these comic books published before I was born tend to get a little...boring. not this one. Of course I knew the Demon/Jason Blood because of my interest in the supernatural side of DC Comics. I'm also a big fan of Jack Kirby's art, so this book was a must for me.

The writing in this can get a little wordy and stranded like most older comic books, but story wise I thought this was really great. Not only was there an actual story, there was drama to go along with Kirby's dramatic art style. There is one issue that gets a little dark too. Their is this white monkey thing that puts fear into people and sometimes causing suicide. Readers of Alan Moore's Swamp Thing might recall the same monster.

The other thing I really like was the usage of Camelot. I love how Kirby draws his knights. He makes them look more like superheroes than what they might have looked like. Sometimes I can see were Mark Buckingham drew inspiration within the pages of Fables. I also like this version of Morgaine le Fay and Klarion. Nice to read their first appearances in DC as well.

I didn't realize Kirby could handle an occult-related tale, but he managed to maser that as well. Remember, he didn't just draw comic books, he created worlds. ( )

Kirby's followed up the highly personal, critically acclaimed New Gods saga with the supernatural tale of the demon Etrigan. Bound by the wizard Merlin to the human Jason Blood, The Demon engages in his centuries-long war with the evil Morgaine le Fay. In these outlandish tales, the action in typical Kirby fashion leaps off the pages. Jack Kirby's The Demon Omnibus collects all sixteen issues of the original 1970s run plus deleted or altered artwork, many of which have never been printed before. ( )
