Shows kids how important numbers are in everyday life. The examples are your address, room number, grade, team numbers etc. Would be a great book to read before starting math concepts or learning number identification.

School Library Journal 10/1/2008

PreS-Gr 1—This serviceable book combines an alphabet format with examples of how numbers are used in everyday life. Colorful watercolor illustrations depict cheerful scenes filled with children, their families, pets, and activities. The page for A ('apartment number') shows neighbors visiting in a hallway, while the entry for B ('bus number') depicts smiling students climbing aboard a yellow bus. The situations vary from computers to signs to sports to a visit to the vet, all typical things children encounter in their daily lives. Youngsters will enjoy searching out the numbers in each picture and identifying how they are used. This book could easily lead to many stories from home and motivate students to look for numbers everywhere. With a wealth of possible uses in the curriculum, it has a place in classrooms and libraries.—Erlene Bishop Killeen, Stroughton Area School District, WI Copyright 2008 Reed Business Information.

Personal Review:

Taking the reader through the alphabet, the authors present a situation where a number is used in our lives, one situation for each of the 26 letters. The goal is to show how anyone can encounter numbers in his/her normal activities. The colorful artwork by illustrator Vicky Enright shows the characters in common settings, such as at school, in the home, or during a holiday outing. The invitation to come up with your own examples had me thinking of other circumstances where numbers appear in our world. ( )
