To enhance the cultural knowledge and language skills of intermediate- to advanced-level students, the Fifth Edition offers newspaper and magazine articles from the Hispanic world. The readings are organized into fourteen self-contained units based on topics such as entertainment, the environment, social issues, and technology. At the end of each unit, situational roleplays and debates, discussion and composition topics, and a variety of research projects synthesize the key ideas and language of the readings as well as promote active student participation and cooperative learning.
