Cinderella Skeleton, written by Robert D. San Souci, is a creative, spooky, and humorous retelling of the fairy-tale Cinderella. Cinderella Skeleton is the main character and all she wants is to attend the Halloween Ball. With the help of the good witch, a jack o’lantern, six rats, two bats, and a black cat, Cinderella reaches the ball and “causes a stir.” This retelling of Cinderella is delightful and the illustrations are spooky yet bright. With the simple use of pencil and watercolor, David Catrow was able to amaze readers with the mixture of colors and the use of simple lines. ( )

With equally beautiful and haunting illustrations this twist on the classic Cinderella tale is a fun and spooky story. The added fact that the tale is told in rhyme helps to make this alternate version even more unique. The changes from the classic version are never too much of a stretch and go with the theme of this version well. ( )

This book is written in lyrical prose. As I am reading the pages, the words seem to flow so effortlessly out of my mouth. This is a Halloween edition to Cinderella. Cinderella is prettier skeleton than the rest of her family. Instead of a glass slipper, her entire foot is broken off. The other women living in this dead world, also break off their foot in order to pass the marriage test. This book would appeals to an audience of Tim Burton. ( )

I really enjoyed reading Cinderella, Skeleton. This wasn’t like any Cinderella story I am used to. Instead this story was based on a Halloween theme and included things such as skeletons, witches, and Halloween Ball’s. Cinderella Skeleton is as sweet as can be, but her two evil step sisters treat her unfair and leave her with all the housework to do and more. At last, Cinderella Skeleton runs into Prince Charnel at the Halloween Ball. She is able to now find true happiness and marries her prince charming. This book was filled with beautiful illustrations that covered the entire page. I would read this book during Halloween time to my students. ( )

Boneyard Acres is home to Cinderella Skeleton, her evil stepmother, and two evil stepsisters. Cinderella Skeleton is forced to do all the housework. When it is time for the Halloween Ball, she begs to go. All the girls want to win Prince Charnel’s heart. Unfortunately Cinderella is forced to stay at home until a good witch agrees to help her get to the ball. She leaves with a warning that everything will change back at the break of day.

Cinderella Skeleton causes a stir at the ball. Everyone is intrigued by this beauty, but she remembers the warning to late. As she rushes to return home on time, she leaves behind a clue. Prince Charnel has been charmed. He searches high and low for his mystery guest. Will the Prince ever find his true love? Will Cinderella Skeleton ever be free of chores? Check out this spooky treat to find out.
