Little Red Riding Hood is a classic story. One theme above all that stands out is that it is not smart to talk to strangers especially when you are young. This story has been around for centuries, and is one that might never die out. it is another one that all children should hear. It is amazing. Traditional Lit, Classic, Children's Story. ( )

Since this was a Caldecott honor book, it is no surprise the illustrations are beautiful. The illustrations really make the story what it is and come to life. The story itself was well-written and there is a bit of a twist at the end that we don't see in the tale that most kids read growing up, especially since it is a Grimm tale. The message of the book is that you should always listen to those you trust and don't be misguided by strangers' manipulative nature if you were to come across someone like that. Little red riding hood got manipulated into wandering off the path where she was supposed to stay on while bringing her grandmother cake and wine, and that is when the wolf intervened and tricked her into going off the path to get flowers for her grandmother as well. The wolf went and ate her grandmother and he ate little red riding hood as well when she got to the house. A man came and saved them by cutting open the wolf. In a twist, another wolf came back and the grandma was able to trick it and it drowned. The nature of the story and illustrations has some dark parts so I would read this with elementary students with caution. It is a good lesson that not everything is what it seems. ( )

This story is a traditional piece of literature that I personally enjoy quite a bit. It uses a variety of words to create a vivid description of the events that occur. It is a Caldecott Honor Book, so the pictures are nice and detailed as well. I would use this book to teach the idea of being cautious of strangers, listening to your parents/guardians, and manners. One of the downfalls of this book is the violence seen in the end. Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother are eaten by the Big Bad Wolf plus the wolf is killed by the huntsman. ( )

I read this book as a child myself, and it is an all-time favorite. I still love to read this book to children when I get the chance, but it's also interesting to hear all the different versions other authors have come up with. ( )

Somethings in life never get old, and one of those things is the amazing Little Red Riding Hood. This story will always be a guide for many people on how to behave and have good manners. It is very important to have these manners , and be nice to others, but at the same time for children they should always know that avoiding strangers is extremely important, not out of being rude, but you never know what kind of people they would run into . This will be a great story to read to K- and 1st grade and teach them about real life situations. ( )
