Really fun and imaginative! I related to these characters- so much like my boys! I have a good feeling they are going to enjoy this series when they are a bit older. ( )

A fun series. I like the mix of silliness and the sea legend. A good brothers book too. ( )

Family vacations are always better when you encounter a legendary sea monster.

And how could you not love a book that has little lobsters telling the giant sea monster, "he said we didn't have to take orders from you, and ... we kinda think he's right. So... we're not gonna, um... do stuff for ya anymore... is that cool?" ( )

Two boys grumble about their forced vacation along the coast away from their gameboys. Eventually they warm to the place after trying salt water taffy, meeting a mysterious fisherman, and learning about the legend of Old Salty- a giant lobster. When all the salt water taffy suddenly disappears, the boys follow the trail and learn that all the little lobsters are forced to steal the candy for Old Salty. They convince the mini-lobsters to mutiny which angers Old Salty enough to retaliate against the boys. Bored yet? I was. Too much time spent building up to this lackluster conflict. Might appeal to reluctant readers around age 7.

Salt Water Taffy is about two boys named Jack and Benny. Jack is age 11, and Benny is eight. This graphic novel begins with Jack not being happy about going on summer vacation; his game boy runs out of batteries, there is no television, and he thinks this will be a bad summer vacation. The boys find a shop that sells Taffy and find that this is the best tasting salt water taffy they have ever had; in fact, it is the only salt water taffy they've ever had. Benny finds a small lobster hiding in a box of taffy, but when he tries to show his brother, Jack, the lobster is no where to be seen.
But, this is only the beginning. With the help of a friend they find named Angus, they learn the story of "Old Salty," and it turns out their summer might not be so boring after all.
