Still water may run deep, but the rapids will leave you bruised and battered in Maggody, Arkansas (pop 755). That is, if the locals don't get you first. Some of them are devious, some are stupid, and some are merely annoying. My mother falls into that last category.

The latest in the Maggody series. When Mrs. Jim Bob Buchanon organizes a golf tournament (despite the fact that there is no golf course in Maggody and no one plays golf), mayhem of the usual high order occurs, helped by several golfers from the outside, each of which has his or her own disreputable reason for being there. In addition to two murders, both Arly and her mother have their own problems. While I really enjoyed this book, I thought the antics were a little over the top and I almost feel as though the series is being to play out. ( )

As always, you are giggling all the way through the story as you attempt to keep up with Arly's reasoning, and try with her to figure out what's got Ruby B's back up.
There are several one-shot Buchanons in this book - telling some more of the zany activities of this family bush. ( )

Good lordie, can people be this dumb? I tell you, the dumb, it ruled. Yes, it made for a pretty funny premise for a book, but dayum! I obviously came into the middle of a series of books, with characters and relationships already fleshed out, yet I could still keep up. Mostly. The town of Maggody is more than a little inbred, and jeezo-pete, I have to repeat - the dumb. It ruled. A golf tournament to benefit the poor, dear golf widows of America. Um, yeah, they really thought they were widows that needed aid. Oy. ( )
