I'm a big fan of Scott Mariani, but this one felt a little weak to me. Still a great read, but wasn't as compelling as either earlier ones or later ones. Also, a word about the "Ben Hope universe" - others have said that it's not necessary to read them in order, and strictly speaking that's true in the sense that each book is a self-contained story. However, Mariani does tend to reference earlier incidents in all of his books. Thus, reading them in order allows you to understand those references - this, along with the deeper understanding of the Ben Hope psyche, provides a greater reading experience in my opinion. Ben Hope returns in The Doomsday Prophecy, the third novel in the Ben Hope series by Scott Mariani. Ben is busy trying to recuperate from the personal tragedy he suffered at the end of the second novel and has thrown himself into his theological studies. He has given up his career and thinking of going back to the priesthood. When a young archaeologist disappears while working on a dig Ben Hope is asked by her parents, who happens to be his theology teacher, to investigate and bring her home. Instead he sends his friend, unwilling to be involved. When his friend is blown up and killed Ben picks up the trail and leads him on journey not only to the find the truth but also to redemption. I am always excited to pick up a Ben Hope novel as I always enjoy a good historical based conspiracy theory. However, for the second time Scott Mariani has managed to disappoint in that regard.Read the full review here keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
