It just so earnest and sweet. ( ) Self-made millionaire Guy Farnes purchases an Austrian castle for his fiancée. The current owner, a princess named Tessa, is working as assistant wardrobe mistress and general errand girl to a nearly-bankrupt opera company in Vienna. When Guy hires the opera company to perform at his engagement banquet, hijinks ensue. This is one of Ibbotson's most charming romances. The characters are delightful, the plot moves apace, the setting is lovely. The romance itself is a bit secondary to these other aspects, but all in all, this is a sweet, fun read. What a delectable, frothy confection of a book! A farce, a romance, a mockery of princess books and just stuffed to the gills with hilarious, peculiar characters making their way. When incredibly wealthy Guy Farne buys the magnificent and mouldering castle of Pfaffenstein in order to woo the woman of his dreams, little does anyone realize that the tiny, opera-obsessed Princess of Pfaffenstein will end up winning the day against great beauty and the best laid plans of every aristocratic aunt. Go ahead. Just upend all the tropes. I'm in for it. Wait. I didn't even realize that was a trope in the first place. Holy pants, where's my brain pieces? And it kept the one trope that I actually insist upon for a romance while not precisely being a romance or fairy tail or... *shrugs* Whatever it was, it was damn fine, and I do believe Ibbotson may have loved the world just the right amount for writing All the best feels. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
