New York Times best-seller. A new story of common wisdom from the best-selling author of The Traveler's Gift. Orange Beach, Alabama, is a simple town filled with simple people. But like all humans on the planet, the good folks of Orange Beach have their share of problems-marriages teetering on the brink of divorce, young adults giving up on life, business people on the verge of bankruptcy, as well as the many other obstacles that life seems to dish out to the masses. Fortunately, when things look the darkest, a mysterious man named Jones has a miraculous way of showing up. An elderly man with white hair, of indiscriminate age and race, wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and leather flip flops carrying a battered old suitcase, Jones is a unique soul. Communicating what he calls "a little perspective," he explains that he has been given a gift of noticing things that others miss. "Your time on this earth is a gift to be used wisely," he says. "Don't squander your words or your thoughts. Consider even the simplest action you take, for your lives matter beyond measure?and they matter forever. "Jones speaks to that part in everyone that is yearning to understand why things happen and what we can do about it. Like The Traveler's Gift, The Noticer is a unique narrative blend of fiction, allegory, and inspiration in which gifted storyteller Andy Andrews helps us see how becoming a "noticer" just might change a person's life forever. The story of Jones continues in The Noticer Returns, available now. The Noticer and The Noticer Returns also are available in Spanish, La maleta and Perspecti… (mehr)

In the dark times of peoples’ lives, a mysterious old man appears in Orange Beach, Alabama. He answers to “Jones” and offers “a little perspective” to folks needing to be a bit more observant. Proclaiming himself to be a “noticer,” Jones’s gifts of wise words and perspective make a decisive change in the lives of the town’s citizens.

Fable? Allegory? Fiction? Truth?

Perhaps a bit of each as the unfolding tales, loosely held together by the appearance of Jones, offer readers bits of wisdom, understanding, and common sense while inspiring them to become their best selves. While not particularly “preachy,” readers will find the self-help advice provides much to consider if they choose to travel the road of positivity and accept the challenge of change that empowers and inspires.

This edition includes a Reader's Guide with questions that may be used for group discussion or for personal reflection.

Highly recommended. ( )

In The Noticer, chance meetings with an ethnically ambiguous older man give insight and perspective to a number of people faced with challenging problems. It's self help that applies conventional wisdom with a little religion to topics ranging from love dialects and spousal selection to family dynamics, business ethics and even death. This book might be just right for someone at a pivotal point in their life. I'm not there, though, so it was just an ok read but nothing that changed my perpective or impacted my way of thinking. ( )

I found the book very insightful and a quick read for anyone looking for a positive read. ( )

I liked the principles in this book, but this format always feels overly contrived and somewhat annoying, but I do have to say, I am changed from the "perspective" I gained from it. ( )
