The story of Dr. Greg is about him building a school in a Himalayan village after the villagers saved his life. He was weak and needed to be nursed back to health. During his time of healing there, he began to get to know the people and culture of this area. He learned that they were self-sufficient but poor and lacked the resources to provide proper schooling for their children. The illustrations are done in collage and that really captured my interest. This book is the story about Dr. Greg Mortenson who got lost hiking in the mountains of Pakistan and what taken in by a village of people. The people in the village helped heal Dr. Greg and in return he did the same, and as he grew stronger he began to help the children of the village with their school lessons. Before Dr. Greg left he went to Haji Ali, the wisest man in the village, and asked what he could do in return for all the help the village has given him. He told Dr. Greg to listen to the wind, and when he did he realized he wanted to build a proper school for the children there. Dr. Greg later returned with supplies in order to keep his promise and slowly the schoolhouse was built.

This book is about Greg Mortenson who was climbing K2 in Pakistan. On his journey he encountered a very poor community. He felt so bad for the children that he vowed to come back and build a school. When he returned he had to make a road and trail to get the supplies to the community. This book is a biography because it explains Greg Mortenson's mission to help others and his life. The media used in this book was Collage. Age primary

This book was about children living in Pakistan who had little access and resources for education. A mysterious sick man comes into their city. The man becomes known as Dr. Greg. As he begins to feel better he helps heel other sick people in the city. When Dr. Greg leaves he promises to come back and help build a school for the children. A year later, he returns and begins building the school with the help of the community. After the school is built, the children are able to learn more in their brand new school. I liked that this was a true story and at the end of the book it shows actual photos of the real event taking place. It also has captions with each picture. I think that is a great resource for students, after they finish reading the book to learn more about the real event that took place. I also think, because it is a true story, that students reading may think further about how important education is and that in some parts of the work their is little to no access to education for children. The minimal text is splendidly paired with Susan L. Roth’s textural, earth-toned collages, which evoke the roughness of the terrain and the primitive quality of life there.
